December 10, 2018…Day 1918

Looking Out Across the Rockies From Mt. Evans

Every year I make the journey to Mt. Evans (about an hour’s drive from my house) at least a couple of time. I wander around in the crisp air, it can be in the 90’s on the front range but you’ll want a light jacket in the mountains. The views are incredible

This image was shot on a slow speed film and developed in a staining developer. The scaned and post processed in Lightroom.

Check out my new website at s-katz.pixels.com and my other blog photographystop.wordpress.com. Photographystop is mostly film photography and film development and it goes into some technical information. My new website is about one third figure work and the rest is an assortment of other things, take a look and see.

October 4, 2018…Day 1852

While Walking Around Edinburgh

I don’t usually post figure studies but I was so impressed with Scotland I decided to post some images that I took.

I recently returned from a trip to northern Scotland. Edinburgh was my last stop on the way home. I was wandering around the old part of the city and saw what I though was potentially an interesting image.

I used Lightroom to fix the image. There was over 10 stops difference between the sky and the building on the right. The buildings in the background were almost black. And of course make the image Black & White.

September 21, 2018…Day 1839

Standing With Her Legs Crossed

I used a moderately slow shutter to give the image a little softness (as opposed to creating a blur indicating motion).

This is an analog image taken with a high speed Black & White film. It was developed in very dilute highly active developer.

Two lights were used, one was placed on either side of the frame about even with the model.

The contrast and exposure was adjusted and the image was cropped using Lightroom.

View from My Room

I spent the last two weeks in Scotland (this image was on the Isle of Skye)  roaming around taking pictures…It was nice to get out of the studio. This is the view from my room at the B&B in the the first morning of my stay.

This is a digital image that I converted to Black & White via Lightroom where it was cropped and the contrast adjusted.

August 24, 2016…Day 1099

Looking Left

Looking Left

I was using this lighting to show a muscular model but still keep the image of the model elegant.

Two lights were used, one was placed on either side of the frame. Both light were slightly in front of the model. This was done to create an image that is almost 3D.

This is a digital image processed in Lightroom. The contrast and exposure were adjusted and the image was cropped and rendered to a Black & White via a Lightroom’s Black & White sliders.
